German Numbers 0-31 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner German students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in German. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-31, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I've used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on German maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of maths is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it's definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they're far more learner-friendly and last for absolutely years.
2-page answer recording sheet
2-page answer key essential learning support resource, encouraging students to develop more independence in their learning, and providing an additional opportunity to engage with language

Perfect for developing French language skills in general, as well as for practising and revising numbers 0-21 in French. There are 36 differentiated questions, answer key, recording sheet and number reference sheet. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students.
Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary, but throughout the year for cover lessons, as entrance and exit tickets, refreshers and free-choice learning. The questions range in complexity and challenge, ensuring a scaffolded learning experience for students.
All the questions are in French, including a range of French maths language. Students may not necessarily engage with that at this stage of their learning, so I use***maths symbols as visual clues and prompts***, enabling students to infer meaning from context. This is a key language learning skill in general, which is important for students to develop as quickly as possible. Depending on the particular group, I may read through the questions together as a whole-group first.

TIMES TABLES MATHS FOR EARLY YEARS PRIMARY MATHS Multiplication tables 1-6 cards, with matching question and answer cards.
I've used these in school and for homeschooling too. Children really enjoy sorting out the cards, on a large table (and often on the floor!) and working independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups. I always give children a reference mat - it's a great way of ensuring everyone can enjoy the games, and lets them check their answers too. I've numbered the question cards, which helps children track their answer when they're looking at the reference mat.
My Monster Maths cards are a firm favourite (in French and Spanish too!) with young learners - they find the visual aspect really engaging, which is such an important element to helping them engage with the content happily and with confidence. They are ideal for small-group and intervention work.
I always laminate learning cards and reference mats, because they're so much easier to work with - and they last for years! I've uploaded a black and white version too, which can really help to keep costs down.

Primary French FSL French Immersion These French Numbers 0-20 Halloween games cards are great for practising numbers in French with a focus on addition and subtraction - they also offer a really useful opportunity for multi-skill and cross-curricular learning. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. My younger learners really love to work with the cards, and we play as often as we can in the run-up to Halloween. There are lots of games they like to play, and I’ve described several of them in the resource file. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this.
There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - it’s quite a bit of prep, but do laminate them if you can, as they are far more user-friendly, and also last for many Halloweens!

**MATHS FOR EARLY YEARS - ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION NUMBERS 0-20 GAMES CARDS - PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING NUMERACY SKILLS - 72 CALCULATIONS **
MONSTER MATHS MATCHING GAME CARDS are perfect for practising addition and subtraction, focusing on numbers up to 20. Children can work together or alone, challenging each other and themselves to calculate correctly in order to find the right answer. The monster theme is really popular with children too, and the physical nature of the games is effective for all learners, particularly those who tend to favour kinaesthetic learning activities. I’ve found that the games work particularly well for small group and intervention or additional support work. They’re perfect for rainy day games both at school and at home too! Children enjoy working both at their own pace, and also sometimes with a little competitive edge in teams, using a timer to really challenge themselves - can they beat their own time record? Revisit regularly to map both improved number recognition and calculation skill, as well as increasing confidence.
The question cards are numbered, which helps children track their responses when they refer to the answer key. Having access to the answer key helps facilitate both self– and peer assessment in the matching game, and enables children to become a little more independent in their learning. They can easily identify which questions and responses are either addition or subtraction by looking for the +/- sign, and also the position of the monster on the card.
Laminate the cards and answer keys if you can - you’ll be able to use them for years to come! I’ve included both a colour and a B&W version of the cards and answer keys, which is helpful if you need to keep prep costs down.

SPANISH CONVERSATION STARTERS #1
This set of Spanish conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish students.
Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I like to include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.

SPANISH CONVERSATION STARTERS TRANSLATION WORKSHEETS #1
This set of Spanish conversation translation worksheets is a companion activity to Spanish Conversation Starters 1, though it works just as well as a standalone translation exercise for advanced beginner Spanish and intermediate Spanish students. The content mirrors that of the conversation starters, and really does help students consolidate and embed essential advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish language across all key language skills.
All the sentences are in question format. There are 200 translation questions in total: 100 from Spanish to English, and then repeated from English to Spanish. Translation is a specific skill that students need to work on carefully and gradually as they progress in their language learning. It’s quite common for beginner language learners to attempt to translate word for word from their first / home language, and though this will work occasionally, it frequently leads to errors.

Set 1 focuses on fruits in English; Set 2 on vegetables in English, and Set 3 on a combination of fruits and vegetables in English, ideal for advanced beginner English and intermediate English students.
I have… Who has… ? is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing target vocabulary in English. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation.
It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Point out particular phonemes and sounds, such as the soft c in lettuce compared to the hard c in carrot, and the addition of n to a when preceding a noun starting with a vowel, such as an aubergine or an orange for example.
The aim of the game is to create an English sentence chain as quickly as possible. The game works well if the sentence sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface.
There are 29 fruits featured across the 3 games: green apple; red apple; banana; cherry; date; fig; gooseberries; grapefruit; green grapes; red grapes; honeydew melon; kiwi; lemon; lime; mango; nectarine; olive; orange; papaya; peach; pear; pineapple; pumpkin; raspberry; redcurrants; rhubarb; starfruit; strawberry; watermelon.
and 28 vegetables: artichoke; asparagus; aubergine; green beans; beetroot; broccoli; Brussels sprout; cabbage; carrot; cauliflower; celery; cucumber; garlic; leek; lettuce; mushroom; onion; peas; green pepper; red pepper; yellow pepper; potato; sweet potato; radish; spinach; sweetcorn; tomato; zucchini
All the fruits and vegetables may not be in my longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective moves beyond simply learning individual units of vocab - the images help students infer meaning from context, supported by the visual prompts and clues - this in turn supports them in developing their English language skills in the longer and more complex sentences. There is***implicit input on grammatical concepts*** such as the***lack of adjectival agreement and gender***, and position of adjectives, which are often entirely new concepts for many ESL/EFL learners. Nouns feature definite, indefinite and partitive articles too. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more.
The question card template provides an additional learning activity, with students applying their developing English language knowledge creatively and practically, as they make game cards for the class - this is a really popular activity with my students.
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re more learner-friendly, and they remain in excellent condition for years.

PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-10 Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This is a free word search, focusing on Numbers 0-10. The search offers a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new numbers, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and literacy skills in general - children often focus on the arithmetic skills involved with numbers, but it’s just as important to work on consolidating the written words too. It’s ideal for both independent learning, as a fun-time filler as well as a targeted practice of the written numbers themselves.
Word searches are easily differentiated, with opportunity to increase challenge gradually, and learners have to look very carefully at letters, and how words are constructed to complete the grid. They are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. Here, for additional consolidation, they also rewrite each number in the word column. There is an answer grid for the word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it! For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus!
The word search is in landscape format, mirroring the common direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. The landscape format is also really useful for learners whose first language is written from right to left. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners, and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable.
Please note this is the math center version of my ESL / EFL Numbers 0-10 Word Search freebie. The file is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved - it may not be shared, distributed outside your own classroom, copied or rewritten in any way - please read the Terms of Use.

NUMBERS 0-100 LIST I’ve found that these kinds of reference lists are a really successful learning support resource, and are really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - colour pattern, which I often use for display, or black wave. The numbers are written across single page in landscape format.

I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Spanish, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Children glue the lists into their Spanish vocabulary books, or file them in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning.
For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets.
